Manu Blogs from Japan!

Argentina, Greece, Spain, U.S. All Semifinalists

Posted by Manu Ginobili on August 30, 2006

The Argentina team fits together very well and that's a big key in all team sports. And we are talented, too. We've got a good bunch of players and we are unselfish. So, those are keys to every tournament we play. We are not characterized by being a young team. The youngest player we have is Carlos Delfino and he's 24 years old. So, now we get more from the experience than from young legs or anything else. But we have a nice mixture of youth and experience.

Now we're more respected than years ago. We were silver medalists in Indianapolis in 2002 and gold medalists in Athens in 2004, so everybody wants to beat us. But, that's normal. It happens everywhere. So, we have to be ready, knowing full well that we've got the potential to win the World Championship. It depends on us.

Spain is good. They are very good. They are a senior team like us with very good players and talents and they play together very well. But, I don't know, there is probably something about their matchups, how they guard us or it's hard for us to guard them. I don't know what is the key, but there's no doubt it's been very hard for us to beat them in the last couple years. So, we're going to try to change that in the next game.

The U.S. team is playing better than recent years, but you still won't notice until they play one of the other three best teams -- Spain, Argentina and Greece. They were in trouble in the first half with Germany, but they've been doing very well. Still, they have to face the best teams in the tournament.

Tonight on 360

A look at a reunion between polygamist Warren Jeff's former followers and believers. Can they convince them it's safe to leave? Tune in at 10 p.m. ET.

I'm sitting here blogging and OMG there's a huge cricket by the door! AGH! I do NOT like crickets in any way, well except the one from Pinochio, he was cute, these are just ugly!

Anywho, today has been a WAY better day! I think things are finally starting to calm down with school and work and all. Yay for good times! Hope everyone else is having a great day! :)

Finally, time to blog!

Wow, it seems like forever since I've been able to just sit here and type away! I'm watching the 360 repeat, and I'm just tired of the polygamy story. From a psychological point of view I find it interesting, but that's not really being focused on.

Although, I was very excited when Erica showed up for the 360 Bulletin!! Loved the interaction between Erica and Anderson after "The Shot", I'm so happy to have studio Andy back! Although I love his field coverage as well!

But anyways! Just when I think I want to quit my job, my boss changes my mind. I guess I have to give him credit I mean he did change the schedule, that was already made for next week AND the week after to work around my hectic school schedule.

FIBA NEWS: Semi-Finals
Argentina will face Spain, and the US will play Greece. Again my picks are bolded. In my opinion it looks like my 2 picks will be facing each other in the FINALS, what ever will I do?! I guess I could always go for "The United States of Argentina" (thanks to Codeh for that suggestion) lol. I mean yes I want to root for the US because it's my national team, and don't get me wrong I'm very proud of the US National team, but my one of my favorite players, Bowen, was cut from the team. On the other hand, my all time favorite basketball player Manu Ginobili (as if I had to tell you all! lol) is on the Argentine National team. Hmmm....decisions, decisions!

I want to offer my apologies to all of you out there that stop by to read my humble blog. I've been very busy as of late, and the stress level skyrocketed last night. Hopefully I will be able to find a routine to update the blog, and get back to the Anderfun!

Hope you all have a great Wednesday!

Tonight on 360

Live from New Orleans. One year after Katrina, we look at why more hasn't been done, and what areas are still struggling.

Also, "360°" looks at how polygamist leader Warren Jeffs was caught and what his arrest means for his followers. Tune in at 10 p.m. ET.

ACs Blog about Katrina

Since I haven't been able to sit down and actually write up a Katrina post like I was planning, I thought I'd post ACs blog post from yesterday. Feel free to share your thoughts about the entry. I will try to get something together in between class, but that'll be a stretch. Hope everyone has a great Tuesday!

Remembering the city that never forgets
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana -- One year later.

In some ways, it's hard to believe. Parts of the city are cleaned-up, scrubbed fresh. You stare at the Convention Center and the Superdome and there's no sign of what happened there, no marker, no memorial.

I flew in yesterday, and while waiting for my luggage in the airport, I thought back to the elderly and sick people who one year ago were placed on the baggage conveyer belt. There was nowhere else for them to go.

It's strange. I'm staying in the exact same room of the same hotel I stayed in a few weeks after Katrina and it seems normal. But drive through the Lower Ninth Ward, of course, or Saint Bernard Parish and Katrina is not just a memory. People's possessions still lay out in the sun. There is still no clear plan for what will be rebuilt, or when, or how.

Did you know that in New Orleans they never take the names off buildings, even if the name of the building has changed?

My father's high school was called Francis T. Nicholls, named after a racist governor of Louisiana. The name of the school was changed years ago. It's now the Frederick Douglas Academy, but Nicholls' name is still carved in stone on the school facade.

This is a city of memory, a city which never tries to erase its own past. I think there is something important in that. We must never forget what happened here. We must never allow others to simply rewrite the history of this storm. We must remember by honoring the dead and telling the stories of the living.

As we look back tonight on "360" at what happened one year ago in Mississippi and Louisiana, I'd be interested in hearing from you.

What memories do you have of Katrina? Whether you lived through it yourself or just watched the horror unfold on TV, was there a moment, a picture, a story that stays with you? Let us know. Help us remember.

Blahness post

AGH! I hate my job sometimes!! For one I don't like the added pressure I'm getting for a certain promotion, I have enough pressure as it is with school, and I'm only part time management, if this keeps up no doubt will I be out looking for another job. Corrective action threats, I don't think so! Secondly, some customers just get on my nerves! Don't get mad at me for your own stupidity! We explain our policy, and just because your kids mess it up, and you end up owning something, don't take it out on me I'm just doing my job! AGH!

Ok, so enough rambling on, if you couldn't tell people just got on my nerves today at work. This one guy didn't like our policy and was just rude about it!

IN HAPPIER NEWS, Argentina will face Turkey in the quarter finals, and Spain will face Lithuania. Germany has also advanced to the quarterfinals as well, I do not know the outcomes of the USA vs Australia, France vs Angola, or Greece vs China games at the moment.

I've decided to buy the AWAY Argentina jersey, as well as THESE basketball shoes!

Oh yes, and the times I've needed FH the most, the forum is on vacation?! Did I miss the memo somewhere?! Someone fill me in please :)

Since I've been a bad anderfan blogger, hopefully these pics will make up for the lack of Anderstuff on the blog lately!

Argentina vs New Zealand

"Manu Ginobili exploded for 28 points and Fabricio Oberto had 23 along with 10 rebounds as Argentina won 79-62 over New Zealand on the opening day of the eight-finals at the FIBA World Championship. " From Fiba.com

I really enjoyed reading this interview (also from Fiba.com), so I'm going to post it in it's entirety

ARG - Manu Ginobili: "We cannot be greedy"

SAITAMA (FIBA World Championship) - Argentina are just three victories away from capturing the gold medal at the FIBA World Championship after Saturday's 79-62 triumph over New Zealand.

Manu Ginobili poured in a game-high 28 points, making big shots in the lane and also sinking Argentina's only three pointer in the final quarter to put the result beyond doubt.

Olympic champions in 2004, Ginobili firmly believes he and his team-mates can go on and win the world title for the first time in their history.

Ginobili spoke to PA Sport's Cindy Garcia-Bennett on behalf of FIBA after his magnificent effort against the Tall Blacks.

FIBA: Manu, at times it looked as if Argentina struggled against New Zealand today.

Ginobili: "We suffered but we still won by 17 points against a rival we knew could really complicate our lives. We cannot be greedy and think we are going to win every game by 30 points."

FIBA: Is everthing okay for the Argentina team right now?

Ginobili: "I think we have it all, perhaps playing well when it matters. I don't think there's an area in which we are struggling. In our previous games we shined at shots from the perimeter and it wasn't the case today but we still played well. This happens in a tournament. There's no specific problems that we have."

FIBA: Did you feel rested and refreshed coming into this FIBA World Championship?

Ginobili: "In previous years it has been very tough but this year we were eliminated in the semi-finals of the conference in the NBA and I've had plenty of time to rest so I cannot complain about anything. I am extremely happy and I will continue to be as long as my national team keeps on winning. If we lose our next game I will feel terrible.
"I didn't come to this World Championship looking to take the spotlight or focuse too much on stats but rather on helping Argentina become champions.
"As long as we continue in this path I will be happy."

FIBA: Do you feel more pressure because you have won an Olympic gold medal?

Ginobili: "For sure there is more responsibility being the Olympic champions.Everybody says that Argentina, Spain and United States are favourites but it's not automatic. In a World Championship any team can surprise you and that carries some pressure. Having said that, most of the players in this national team have had to deal with some pressure in their careers we are therefore, we are used to it.

FIBA: Argentina will play the winner of Slovenia versus Turkey. Do you have a preference?

Ginobili: "I know more the Slovenian team well because I have played with some of their players. I know little about Turkey but those who know them have warned us that they are very dangerous and play well. At this point of the tournament all the rivals are difficult so whoever it is will be."

FIBA: What could prevent Argentina from not clinching the gold medal in Japan?

Ginobili:"There's no question that our aim is to win gold but it will depend on how we play and whether the crucial shot in a tight game goes in. I think it's the same for other teams and that will be the case in our next game."

FIBA: Saturday's game was your team's first game at the Super Arena in Saitama, what do you make of this venue?

Ginobili: "This arena is gigantic and it's great to see so many fans in the stands. One thing I didn't like was the rigidness of the rims, as we struggled to make some shots but it's something that obviously affects both teams. We will have to get used to it."

FIBA: Have you been able to watch any of Team USA's games so far?

Ginobili: "We haven't seen any of our rivals play because we haven't been able to watch it on TV. We have seen the stats but we are really focusing on our national team."

I survived!

Hey hey everyone! Looks like I survived my first Thursday! Phew! lol Anywho, it'll take some time for my body to get used to it, but I think I'm going to like this semester! Whoohoo! Anywho, I wish everyone a great FRIDAY and great weekend as well.

One more...

Just ONE more class today, and omg I'm so tired like whoa!! Today hasn't been very hard course wise, but the killer biochemistry is only 30 mins away, but just so many classes so close together is a killer all in itself! I just have to make it for an hour and 20 mins then I can come home and relax!! I actually fell asleep for about 20 mins during Maury lol, but it didn't really help me out that much.

Well wish me luck, and everyone take care!

Midday Ramblings

Thursday's Show: The clock ticks for two journalists kidnapped in Gaza. "360°" gets insight from journalist and former hostage Jill Carroll. Tune in at 10 p.m. ET.

Hey everyone! Just stopping by between classes to say HI and I hope everyone is having a great Thursday!! My dad has been pretty interesting to say the least. I show up to Vertebrate Biology at 850, to find out that my prof is having heart surgery later on in the semester so he gave us 3 choices. A)Drop the class this semester and substitute Vertebrate natural history and taxonomy to satisfy our graduation requirements. B) Attend 12 class periods, then get an Incomplete and pick it up in the spring, or C) Attend 12 class periods, get an Incomplete and resume during the May semester.

So as a class we felt that A would be the best option. So I went and dropped a 4 hr credit class leaving me at 15 hours. Then I began to think, what if biochemistry just kicks my butt and I have to drop to save my GPA!? That would only leave me with 11 hours, 1 hr away from scholarship requirements. So I took on Concepts of Fitness a 1 hr credit class just in case. There are no timing issues with the new class it meets at the same time that my vertebrate class did, but it starts at 1015 instead of 8:50!! I got a full refund for my vertebrate book, bought the COF book (had to buy it new) and left with $37 in my pocket!! Whooohooo!!!

In other news, my Argentines defeated Serbia and Montenegro 83-79. Whoo that was a close one for Manu and the rest of the squad! They have extended their record to 5-0! The US team also extended their record to 5-0 with a win over Senegal!

So I missed the CNN special last night as well as 360, and I was too tired to watch the repeat. I did record the special, maybe I'll watch it tonight. Did anything interesting happen on 360? Any good stories, any snark, ander-giggles? Fill me in!

FIBA Update

Argentina defeated Nigeria 98-64! Whohoo! I can come home from work get all ready and enjoy a good Argentina victory!!! The USA also defeated Italy 94-85!!! My teams are on a roll!!!

Well, I'm off to start getting ready for work, I actually have to go in an hour early tonight. Anyone else looking forward to the CNN Special? I'm recording it, my dad actually asked me to, I had forgotten that it was tonight. Well hope everyone enjoys their evening!

Back to school Day 1

Well well well. Today has been a great day, really easy too! I'm going to love Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays!! ONE real class, and band that's it! Oh yeah, and chapel on Wednesdays, no biggie. Don't think I'm off the hook though Tuesdays, and Thursdays are going to be blahness!!!

So I found out I have to go "camping" for Ecology.

Here's the breakdown of my Tuesday Schedule. My school day will start at 8:50 AM with Vertebrate Biology, which last until 11:30. Then around noon, I have music appreciation until 1:35, then band starts at 1:45 until 3. Then I get to go to Biochemistry around 4:30 until almost 6, but wait there's more! Half an hour later, I get to sit through Computer Competency for 3 hours (what makes it worse is I have to miss HOUSE once the new season starts! thank goodness for recording devices!) My Thursdays will be the same minus the computer class. Sheesh!

So here's a good ole mathematical equation for all of you:

19 Hrs + band + part time job + basketball = ???

The answer is *drum roll* INSANITY!!!!

"I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13

Random thoughts....

Wow, what a surprise!! I found out today that I have class TOMORROW! Yeah, it was soo much fun trying to find someone to take my shift at work..sheesh!! Oh well, I got someone to do it so its all good. Tomorrow shouldn't be all that bad...I only have Ecology at 10 then band at 145....but then I get to go into work until 11 then have class at 850 on Thursday.....

HAHA like if I was going to go to sleep early anyways! HA! Thats a good one Rita *pats myself on the back* I'm definately going to watch the Argentina game tomorrow night, its one of the few...well if I remember correctly the only Argentina game at the moment to be on TV where I'm at! I have to support my Manu!! Like I said it wont be too bad, I'll jet get all my stuff ready and do my hair while I'm watching the game and I'll be able to wake up easily!

Wow, I can honestly say that this summer has just flown by! It seem like only yesterday I was taking finals...those were the days.... wait WHAT?! NO no no...not exactly the memory I was going for lol. Seriously though, this summer was a blast, who can complain about spending 2 weeks in RUSSIA, then being lazy and just working part time?!

Anywho, I hope everyone has a very happy "Hump Day" I'll catch all of you later, maybe between class or later after work while I'm rooting on Argentina!!

Happy Monday!

Well well well, look who is up before noon! My summer sleep ins are officially over.

Monday's Show: Shunned by their church, community and society. But polygamists say they haven't lost their way. Pride in polygamy. Tune in at 10 p.m. ET.

Looks like we get another polygamy talk on 360 tonight. I don't know about all of you, but I'm just not into this story. I will admit the first couple of stories were interesting, but there really isn't anything new to me coming from the situation. Anywho, maybe I'll tune in, I'm not sure yet.

In other news, Argentina defeated Venezuela 96-54! For the second straight game ARG was able to rest their star players, after taking control of this game with a comfortable lead early on. This allowed the Argentina bench players to show what they were made of. After the game Ginobili emphasised how important it was for the bench players to allow the starting players to rest for the tougher competition ahead.

"There is no doubt that we have one of the deepest benches in the league and it's really great for us because there are a lot of games to be played if we want to go all the way to the final," he said.

Argentina (3-0) will take on Nigeria (1-2). FSN will air the game at midnight. Hmm do I stay up an extra hour and half to watch my Ginobili play, or sleep since school starts that day..... *ponders* I know I'll wake up and well first days aren't that bad, so I think I'll support Manu! Man I really wish I had my Argentina Ginobili jersey to wear, but NO dang text books put that on hold! lol
The USA will face Slovenia next. Go USA! Go Beno Udrih!! (#14 San Antonio Spurs)

On a more personal note, as many of you know I'm a musician. I was looking through my "music appreciation" text book and it was about reading music and all that good stuff as well as history of music. I think this is going to be an easy class! YAY! My sister also took on the task of learning to play bass guitar for jazz band at her school (8th grade). So she was needing some help with some music, and boy was I confused! I haven't read bass cleff in 3 years! So know, I'm taking it upon myself to learn bass guitar along with her so I will be able to help her. It's not as hard as I thought it was (getting back into the groove of reading bass)but I have more respect for bass guitarist!

Anyhow, I hope everyone has a great Monday!!

Randomness!

hey everyone, well I just gave Domino (my dog) a bath, and found out my flea/tick collar obviously isn't working. It was horrible, I felt so bad, that I was crying while giving him a bath. I felt as if I had let him down as an owner. In no way should he have been that bad. So to anyone that has a dog, what medication do you all use? Any recommendations as to which brand works best? I can't remember which brand collar I was using but I think my parents got it from Wal-Mart. We hadn't had problems like this in the past with it, but maybe they've become immune to it.

On a much lighter note, only TWO MORE DAYS UNTIL YOU CAN BUY HOUSE SEASON 2 ON DVD!!! YAY!

On a much darker note, only 4 more days until I have to go back to school....blah! 19 hours, and a night class on Tuesday of all nights! Oh well thank goodness for DVRS!

Anywho, hope everyone is having a great Sunday! Take care :)

Ander-vacation Day 4

Well Anderfolks, it's day four of Anderless week, and boy surprisingly I'm holding up quite well. Keeping yourself busy with other projects non Ander-related really keeps you on your toes! Maybe the reason I've been watching so many movies as of late is because Anderson is on vacation...seems to fit. I wonder if he has watched any good movies while being away *ponders*

Anywho, here's your daily dose of Anderson, if anyone feels the need to up the dosage let me know ;)

Movie Review: Phat Girlz

Synopsis:
Superstar comedienne Mo'Nique is "hilarious" (San Francisco Chronicle) as a sassy, plus-sized fashion designer who's tired of taking no for an answer in this "delightful" (Boston Globe) comedy about living life to the fullest. Jazmin Biltmore (Mo'Nique) has big plans for large ladies-she's designed a sexy line of clothes for curvaceous women like herself. But when she can't get funding for her designs or meet a man who appreciates her unique physique, Jazmin's patience starts running thin. That is, until she wins an all-expense-paid-trip to a resort in Palm Springs, where she might meet the man of her dreams. (Rated PG-13 for sexual content and language, including some crude sexual references

Mo'Nique was amazing, she's funny, and knows how to work it. This movie really did make me think about American society as we know it. Everytime you open up a magazine, go to the mall, see a fashion commercial...what do you see? You see what society has labled "the perfect size people". I started to think about all the young girls who struggle with their appearance, and are often teased for not being the "perfect size".

Honestly, I didn't really think I would enjoy this movie as much as I did. BUT since I'm being honest, I LOVED IT!

Movie Review: A Walk On the Moon

Hey Anderfolk! So I just rewatched "A Walk on the Moon" tonight, and well personally I think its a pretty good movie, but I think Viggo Mortensen makes it down right amazing! I'm not going to lie to anyone, he just look amazingly beautiful in this movie! I love the long hair, free spirited character he portrays. I also loved Viggo in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The brave, long haired, scruffy soon to be king was just wow....

Synopsis:
Set in Woodstock, the summer of 1969, a frustrated, beautiful young Brooklyn housewife, Pearl Kantrowitz, spends her summer in the Catskills. Her world is turned around when she has an affair with a free-wheeling traveling salesman, Walker Jerome--a charming and quietly seductive hippie. Pearl cannot help herself even as she begins to realize the consequences of her intense attraction. Pearl is having the time of her life--and she is finally becoming the person she always wanted to be. But when her foray to the Woodstock Festival in the arms of Walker Jerome results in a shattering family revelation, she must reconcile her old life with her new desires and dreams.

So again here's some Viggo eye candy for anyone that loves Viggo to enjoy!
