Picture of the Week 05/28/06

This is just a little overdue, but it was worth the wait!

Since this is all over the news....

....I decided to go and watch The Da Vinci Code. To be honest with all of you, its not all it's cracked up to be! It was a pretty good movie overall, although I kinda got bored in the middle of it, and I kept glancing at my watch.

I'm going to apologize in advance if this offends anyone, but these are my HONEST thoughts about what the movie proposes (and I've resorted to some text from the book as well to make my points)

I wanted to get this post out in the light as soon as I got most of my research completed on the the given perspective, and seeing as how I'm still researching on different topics, if I am able to use anything that I come upon in a previous topic that I have covered I will be adding it to the respective post in bolded text.

This is the first of my series that I am starting (dont know the exact number of entries this topic will produce-we'll just have to see), and to be quite honest, this has been a hard entry to write. I strongly believe in spiritual warfare, and I have gone through so much these past couple of days while researching, and writing.

1. Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene
This is the backbone of the movie (if anyone hasn't heard) As most of us know, there is no historical evidence to suppore this claim.

Many sources point that the only evidence Mr. Brown cites to support this claim is from the so-called "gospel of Phillip" The title is somewhat misleading; according to scholars, the text makes no claim as to be written by the Apostle Phillip. However, there is a reference to the Apostle.

According to the text on page 246 of the hardcopy edition of The Divinci Code you'll find this passage:

"the companion of the Savior is Mary Magdalene. Christ loved her more than all the disciples and used to kiss her often on her mouth. The rest of the disciples were offended by it and expressed disapproval. They said to him, 'Why do you love her more than all of us?'"

Wouldn't you think that IF Jesus and Mary would have been married that the disciples wouldn't have had to ask that last question? It would be obvious why Jesus loved her more than the rest of the disciples if they would have been married.

Imagine this scenario: a group of grown men asking a married man, "why do you love your wife more than us?, and why do you keep kissing your wife?" I mean c'mon now, that just doens't make any sense.

In the book, Brown claims that definition of "companion" as found in the "gospel of Philip" literally meant "spouse". However, the text was originally written in Coptic, so using a Aramic definition is irrelevant to the claim of any so called marriage.

Also, many scholars have also stated that the translation of these gnostic texts can not be accurate due to the conditions of the actual text when the transcription had taken place. One major example of this is the fact that it says that Jesus would kiss Mary on the mouth. When anyone begins their research on such delicate texts, you will find that there is an omited word in the text, thus scholars have filled in the blank with the word mouth, face, forehead, hand, cheek, etc. In the culture of many Middle Eastern countries back during the time of Christ, it was custom for a teacher to kiss his students on the cheek or hand, therefor the word being substituted could have easily been manipulated to satisfy any one person's point.

When reviewing the gnostic texts, none of them actually make the reference to any form of intimate relationship between Jesus and Mary; Mary's own text doesn't even make such a claim.

So whether or not you choose to take my observations to heart is up to you. If anyone would ever like to discuss any type of spiritual topics, feel free to drop me aline. Also, I want to extend my hand to anyone needing prayer, or just someone to talk to, and if any of you that are not Christians, and are curious, feel free to ask me questions as well.

Very Personal: Night's like tonight.....

OMG...I miss them so much. I dont have any grandparents anymore, and sometimes a day will go by when I dont think about them, and I hate it. Then there are those nights, when I'm all alone in my room that I just cry myself to sleep, gaah you would think I would reach a point where I couldn't cry anymore.

Tonight is one of those nights. I realize that I really dont have anything of my Ama, and it's been 7 years since her passing and I really wish she was here.

It's been 2 years since my Grandma passed away, and night's like these I just hug my Texas A&M bear and bawl, I look over to all my Barbies and smile, but cry even harder. She would give me a barbie every Christmas and I remember one year I didn't get one bc she thought maybe I was too old, and oh how I was so disappointed. Well she went out and bought me one and to this day it's my favorite one out of all of them.

It's been a little over a year since my Apa passed, and I really wish we could have been closer. It wasn't until my late high school years that we got close, and I wish I could just talk to him once more.

It's been 3 months since my Pee-paw passed and it seems like years. I miss his phonecalls, and his sense of humor. His funny bird clocks, and his practical jokes. I remember when he came to my hs graduation and we took a picture while he kissed me on the cheek...I can't find that photo, and I wish I could.....

I know one day I will see them again, and somedays I wish God could just take me home so I could leave all the crap I go through. Then I realize I'm here for a purpose and once I finish the plan he has for me, we will be reunited again.....

I GOT MY BOOK!

Ok so I got my book in the mail today and omg I was all sorts of excited!!! I had been listening to the audio book but I had to stop and start reading right away!!! So I read non-stop and omg...I'm speechless! It was amazing! Anderson really knows how to draw the reader into the story, and writes with beautiful language! I was very impressed! Now, all I have to do is finish the audio book!

My Spurs may be out...

BUT, I can't help but think about certain aspects of the Spurs-mavs series.

This was brought up in a forum that I'm involved with, and it really makes you think:

Written by a sports columnist regarding the recent Spurs/Mavs series:

We've also seen an owner stoop to new lows by encouraging fans to boo a former Mavs player who represented his team and organization with nothing but class during his eight-year tenure, was susbsequently released by that team, and now somehow is a villain. It was also apparently Michael Finley's fault that Jason Terry's uppercut found Finley's private parts. Can you imagine Peter Holt urging Spurs fans to boo Avery Johnson?

Can we say unsportsman like conduct to the extreme?! OMG!! Finley is a great player, and I'm pretty sure a lot of sweat from working hard was dropped on that court, and it probably paid off even though the Mavs never did advance to win a title. Hard work, and dedication does not warrant boo's from the fans in my opinion. It just goes to show that the classless owner, has brought the Mavs fans to an all time low! Yes, I know other organizations have done the same thing, BUT this is the first time it has been brought to the light, and it wouldn't have happened if the owner and some dignity and respect for the opposing teams.

Maybe, I'm just totally off on this seeing as how I play for an organization whose core principles are: Respect, Integrity, Responsibility, Servant Leadership, and Sportmanship

I dont know, I mean I know some pretty awesome Mav fans, and I actually had a new respect for the Mavs, but after everything that the owner has done, that respect is gone. I dont even care that the Mavs are from Texas, and I always said that if my Spurs were to lose, that I would cheer on the Texas team.

For Finleys sake, I hope Phx takes the series, and send that ignorant Cuban back to Dallas. Just wait until next season buddy, my Spurs and Finley will be back with a vengence!

My Dispatch Opinion (non spoiler edition

Ok, so I haven't gotten my Dispatches from the Edge book, but I did get my audio book! And even though I wanted to read before I listened,I couldn't resist!!! Let me tell you, being able to listen to Anderson telling his story is amazing!! He had be crying, and laughing and I'm not even finished with disc 1!!!

At one point, he was quoting his Sri Lankan guide and he even changed his voice and spoke with an accent!

I found it hilarious!!The audio book is FIVE discs and approx. 6 hours!!!
I bet the book is amazing to read, but there is just something about hearing Anderson narrate it.

Feel free to let me know your general opinions, seeing as this is my non-spoiler edition; I personally dont mind spoilers but I know not everyone feels that way!

To all my readers....

First of all I want to thank everyone that stops by and reads my daily ramblings whether they are about Anderson or not!

I also want to extend a huge thank you to all my international readers!!! It's glad to know that all around the world there are people that share the same interests as me!!! Yay!!!

Once again, THANK YOU!!

My NBA ramblings.....

Ok, so I'm sitting here waiting for the Phx-Dal game to tip off, and here are my thoughts:

To make this a series Nash has to get into the lane, split the D to open up opportunities, as well as execute the pick-and-roll effectively!

"blah blah blah blah blah"-Mark Cuban- I'm sorry folks, but I just have no respect for that man! I was cringing throughout his entire interview, and wondering where in the world he got those blue plaid shorts and WHY in the world the bought them!

I have to agree with what Charles said, the owner shouldn't be on the bench during the game. Any owner, the bench is where the coaching staff and the players should be only, shouldn't have any distractions imho as always!

I dont know who to go for at the moment. I like Phx, and Nash. I like Avery Johnson and would be happy to see him make a difference but it's ppl like Cuban who influences my decision and hope Phx takes it....

Anywho, who are the officials in this game?! I hope its not Baveta or whatever his name is...I just dont think he's in his prime reffing years anymore and should retire, he calls bogus calls and lets the calls that should be called slide...I know you cant see everything on the court but gaah call the obvious fouls!!

Oh yeah, how about them Miami boys?! Going up 1-0 against Detroit!!!
Well thats all for now.....

Will you join me?

I've joined the Connect Your World campaign! I want to help children around the world survive and break free from poverty and I need your help!

I'm inviting you and other compassionate friends to connect with one special child who's suffering in poverty by sponsoring them. Your monthly sponsorship gifts can be life-saving, because you'll be giving them access to basics that most of us take for granted. Things like clean water, nutritious food, health care, and education to build a future.

I love sponsoring my child. I know I'm helping to change their life forever. And that's why I'm inviting you to join me! You may be telling yourself that you can't afford to sponsor a child; I'm a full time college student, working a part time job, and paying for all my expenses; God has provided for me in ways like never before allowing me to sponsor a beautiful little girl, who has blessed me in so many ways.

If you dont think you are capable of helping a child out all on your own, why not bring it up as a family and split the monthly fee between you? Or why not get a group of you friends to split the cost?

I've chosen to partner with World Vision in this campaign because I trust them. Last year, 87% of their total revenue went to programs benefiting children and families in need.

Start by visiting the exciting Web page I've created, at the link below.

After you visit my Connect Your World campaign page, please let me know what you think! Thank you for sharing my heart for the world's children. Together, we can help hundreds of children survive poverty and reach a better future.

Only 7 more days to donate.......

Repeated post:

Good morning Anderfans!!!! As many of you probably know, Anderson's birthday is quickly approaching. I'm pretty sure we've all seen this topic on various communities and websites "What are you getting Anderson for his birthday?" Honestly, this question hadn't even crossed my mind until reading all the Anderfans share their ideas. I will admit, some of the ideas floating around are awesome, but this one has to be my favorite. What if we all came together and donated to a charity that is close to his heart, in honor of his birthday on June 3rd?! Brilliant!!!

I'm proud to announce that a donation drive honoring Anderson has been established at The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. It will begin on Tuesday, May 2nd and will continue through Wednesday, May 31st. Like Anderson said last week, suicide is a problem hiding in plain sight. Education is the best weapon in suicide prevention. Please visit this WEBSITE to find out how to donate to The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention birthday fund for AC. There are several options (online, by phone or mail) that are available, and the website explains it all.

If you would like to be updated on the successfulness of this donation drive please check in periodically at All Things Anderson

I still love my SPURS!

Well, my Spurs lost game 7 in OT. I could go on and on about how the refs didn't call crucial calls BUT I'm not going to become one of those fans. I'm very proud of my Spurs coming back after being down by 20 points, to giving the Mavs a run for their money! So to all my Spurs out in San Antone, thanks for a GREAT season, and we're still the better team and you still have the best fans in the world!

To all you bandwagon fans out there that decided to leave early and give up on the Spurs, go root for Dallas or Detroit who ever happens to be winning at the time! I still love my SPURS!!!

Have a great off-season, and can't wait until next season!!!

EDIT:Gaah, can the Mavs fans get any more immature?! Sheesh!

Picture of the Week 05/21/06

My apologies this is a little late, I had to work last night, and my internet wasn't working when I got home, so I actually slept!!! Yay for Sleep!!!

Saturday, May 20, 2006

Never underestimate the heart of a champion..

Now that's what I'm talking about baby!!! My Spurs defeated the Mavs 91-86 forcing a game 7 back in San Antone!! Ginobili had 30 points, 10 rebounds and 3 steals. Duncan also had a huge game with 24 (I believe) points, Finley hit some major 3s and played with tons of passion against his former team. Although Parker struggled throughout most of the game, he made some key plays, as well as hitting 2 crucial freethrows with 5 seconds left in the game.

Added content:
Ok, so this isn't directed to the Mavs fans, but more to their owner, who in my opinion made some very unnecessary comments that I personally reflect poorly on the entire Mav organization. IMO if you are "in charge" of an organization, you're actions, and words reflect those that you are "in charge" of, therefor you should really watch what you do and what you say concerning certain issues. Am I right or am I totally off on that one?!

This is the comment that I am talking about: "Theres not going to be one fan in there that doesnt believe that we can kick their butt all the way back to that ugly-ass, muddy-watered thing they call a Riverwalk."

Sheesh, I'm not even from San Antone and that made me mad! lol Don't get me wrong even though Cuban's comment reflects very poorly on the entire Mav organization I do realize that there are still some class act people involved-such as Avery Johnson who said he disagreed with the statement.

Monday's game is going to be INTENSE! I can't wait!! GO SPURS GO!!

For the Record

With the events of the past few days, I have to make one thing clear, this blog is dedicated to Anderson Cooper but is not meant to be scrutinized as a blog written by a delusional fan. A recent article was written labeling fans of Anderson Cooper, and I quote '...half-baked middle-aged women who call themselves "Anderholics" declare their overall love for Cooper by chatting about such things...'

Although this article has a very negative connotation toward us fans, some points seem legit. It does make you think how much is too much. Yes I will openly admit Anderson Cooper is an extremely attractive man, and even after the article I will continue to admit that.

Spread the word!

Fellow Anderfans:

If you believe in what Anderson Cooper is doing for the gulf coast, then PLEASE, do this! The help for these people is long overdue, especially, when it come to the essential basics of housing and debris removal. How can these people rebuild their lives, if they don't have this!

Give the Help That You Would Want Given to You!

OT-I STILL BELIEVE!!!!!!

Whoohoo this is the 100th post!!!! Man the Spurs-mavs series has been tough!!! My Spurs pulled through tonight making it a 2-3 series!!

This series reminds me of the finals last year! remember when everyone counted the Spurs out after losing game 4?! We all learned from last years finals that the Spurs are extremely tough mentally can come through when everyone else counts them out.

BUT! Now the pressure is on Dal imo. Charles said it best: "If Dallas comes in here and loses like this, then goes home and loses, mentally they will be fried and will not win game 7."

"It's not about talent, its about heart, its about who can go out there and play the hardest....so you have to go out there and take it!"Coach Don Haskins (Glory Road) Gino played with tons or passion tonight and reminded me of my favorite quote!

Keep the Faith!!! Whoohooo what an ending to a great night!

EDIT: How could I not include Anderson in the 100th post?!?! What was I thinking?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Well we've all noticed the new tie, and I like it! He's looked pretty amazing as of late, even more so that I wasn't able to see him for 2 weeks!! I read the VF article on the way back from Dallas on Monday, and it was great!!

"At times I feel like a failure, as if I'm not up to the responsibility. At night, when I try to sleep, I go over the questions I've asked interview subjects, the wording, the accuracy. Did I stutter and stammer and beat around the bush? Was I fair? Was I too emotional? Did I give the guest a chance to answer? Did I let him ramble on too much? Did I get spun? I worry that our cameras are not capturing enough. I worry that I'm letting New Orleans down." VF pg 183

After reading that I let out a huge sigh, and sat there thinking about what it meant. This just gives me another reason to love Anderson-he's human, he has doubts, he has convictions. If it's any consolation Anderson, I dont see you as failure, you are one of the few people that actually care about NOLA and it's citizens. Keep up the great work!

Non-Anderson post on the 360 blog that caught my eye!

'Alligators like easy prey'
Quick! Gator sighting. Get over to this address. A trapper is about to catch one.

That was the word from CNN's assignment desk. The timing was right on. No sooner did we make our way to the back of a lakefront Florida home, than we heard veteran gator hunter Todd Hardwick yell, "Gator up!"

The gator had been sitting at the bottom of the lake for about an hour, evidently hoping that the guy who'd been circling the lake's perimeter would go away.

When the nine footer came up for air, Hardwick's hook landed him and he reeled in the 200-300 pounder. Hardwick sat on the gator's back and taped its snout, while I held a "catch pole."

With three women fatally attacked in the span of a week in Florida (only 20 such attacks have been recorded in nearly 60 years in Florida), Floridians have been calling trappers around the clock to capture gators.

The trappers have a priority list. The longest ones and those who are spotted on land go first. Then the smaller and more remote ones follow.

There's no charge to call a trapper. They're given permits and processors pay them by the foot for what they catch -- from as much as $55-60 per foot to as little as $15 per foot when they're plentiful.

When the gators are killed, nothing is wasted, Hardwick says. The meat, the hide, even the skull are sold.

In case you're wondering what to do if you ever come across a gator, Hardwick says you should ignore the common suggestion to run in a zig-zag pattern. He says it's just an old wives tale. You can try running straight away, but gators are very quick over short distances.

What you can do, if attacked, is "fight for your life," Hardwick says. Punch, kick, gouge out its eyes, and you might get it to back off. "Alligators like easy prey."

What do you all think?

NO!!!

OMG! I just found out I have to work tonight!!! NOOOO After missing all of the previous games except for the 4th quarter of the last game!!! OMG! How am I supposed to work when my Spurs are playing in a HUGE game?!?!?!?!?! My Spurs are in a must win situation, and facing elimination tonight against the Mavs! I still believe that my Spurs will pull through this series, but man o man...I'm gonna be walking on egg shells tonight at work!!!!I guess I'll have to record it, and watch it when I get home!!!

Go SPURS GO!!!!!

LOYAL UNTIL THE END AND BEYOND!!!

May 6th
Even though I planned to pull an all nighter I ended up falling asleep around 3:15ish, and woke up around 4:30, got ready and prepared to say good bye to my family. When I arrived at the band hall, we got everything we needed (passport, tickets, band shirt, etc); we weighed our luggage and then loaded a bus to Dallas, TX(7 hrs). I slept most of the way, only waking up when we stopped in various towns for a break. Once at DFW we went through all the usual airport procedures. I didn't even think what people would say when they saw me sporting my Spurs hoodie all around the Dallas Airport lol. One of the employees doing bag checks was jokingly hating on me, but it was all good. We had a 3 hour lay over before our flight to Frankfurt. At each of the gates they had CNN showing, and I got to see a few commercials of Anderson before leaving the country. When our flight took off, I will admit, I was really nervous. The flight was approx 9 hours and 15 mins and omg...the time changed just about killed me talk about jet lag!!! gaah!

May 7th
Since I didn't really write much about the flight, here we go! The food was actually pretty good, but I did have trouble sleeping, it seemed like everytime I woke up it seemed like I had been asleep for hours and it would have only been 30 mins or so later. When we landed in Germany, we had a 30 min layover before we left for Moscow. I opened a book I had bought for the flight and what a suprise! My mom had left me a card inside of the book. It got me all teary eyed!
Well, I can't believe I'm in Russia! It's so beautiful and different. I dont have a roomate and it kinda sucks, but then again I dont have to share a bathroom, so its all good. These next few days will be extremely busy! Today we didn't do much due to the long flight and all that good stuff, so I just hung out with a few people and now I'm off to sleep. Until tomorrow....

May 8th
OMG I slept like a rock!! The bed sucks, but when you are exhausted it doesn't really matter. Breakfast was okay, but I wasn't brave enough to try anything different after last night's experience...yuck! lol Our tour guides from the IFAI are so nice and very funny. My group's tour guide's name is Slava and he knows everything it seems! There is another guide named Rita, how funny is that?! It still trips me out that my family is just about to fall asleep and I'm just waking up! Mind boggling I tell ya! The WWII museum was amazing! I just wish we would have had more timeto take everything in though. Dinner wasn't too great but I have to eat. Today we marched, and marched, and marched, and dang my feet are killing me!Well I have a roomie now, since one of the clarinets got sick and she didn't want to risk catching anything...well until tomorrow....

May 9th
Wow what a day!!!! We marched, and played in the rain and some band people were just cranky! The perfomances were amazing so it made it all worth it! We played at the Grand Hall of the Moscow State Conservatory where teh military band played "A Slavic Farewell" withus. The people reacted so well to it, giving us a standing ovation and clapping during the song. Slava toldus that they dont clap out of courtesty, only when they really enjoy the performance.
We were priveledged to be on a stage during the National minute of silence, and even though I couldn't understand what the speaker was saying just before the rememberance moment just looking at the expressions on the tons of people in the crowd broke the language barrier, and was also a very humbling experience....

May 10th

Today was our last day in Moscow, and we got to tour the Kremlin and Red Square, and wow it was amazing! Ashley, Shawn, Steven and I went shopping today as well. Shop owners will literally pull you into their shops, it was kinda creepy. We also visited a Baptist Church and we got many mixed reactions. Partly I believe was brought on by the difficult transition from the Roman Orthodox Chuch to another form of the Christian faith. We boardeda tran in Moscow heading to St. Petersbug around midnight. It was an overnight night train and I actually slept pretty good.

May 11th
Wow! St. Petersburg is beautiful!!! We toured the Petergoff and wow! It's huge and very beautiful. Today was another rest day, so after our tour at the Petergoff we checked into our hotel and omg compared to the last one its like Heaven! I have my own room again and my bed is HUGE!!! Ashley, Shawn, Steven and I went bowling today it was fun, and we also went down to the gulf. Our hotel is on the Gulf of Finland, and its awesome!!!

May 12th

Today was a very busy day. We toured the Hermitage Museum and its HUGE!!! Our concert was held at the State Academic Cappella Concert Hall and omg amazing! Slava told us that the people that atteneded have at LEAST one music degree and to recieve a standing ovation is quite an accomplishment!! Slava is amazing, he's very smart and know alot of information about Russia andI'm glad to have the opportunity to meet him. We went to a nearby grocery store and it was pretty confusing, but what got to me is this story that my friend told me, I wasn't able to hear what was going on in front of us but she did. There was a man checking out in the line we were in and he didn't have enough money, so he had to choose between bread and milk. It was so sad because here we were spending more money that he probably makes on junk food and he had to chose between bread and milk. It was very humbling, and I wish I would have witnessed this first hand because I so would have given him the money he needed.

May 13th
Today went by very fast. We toured the Peter and Paul Fortress (this is the place where the Romanov family is buried) Our last concert took place tonight at the Palace of Officers Concert Hall. Overall, the concert was great, and the audience loved it. One lady was even asking us for our autographs and many people wanted to take pictures with us. It was very fun to be able to do that. Now I'm here in my room watching EuroNews lol, and its nothing like CNN and 360 :( St. Petersburg is lovely, and I would def. love to return on my own one day when I'm able to communicate.

May 14th

OMG I can't believe it's time to leave already! I'm ready to go home, but it's sad! Today was great. We went to a Baptist church service and got to attend a wedding! We went to a Greek restruant for lunch and it was great! Then we had free time to shop, and then had our farewell dinner. At the end of the school year, we always give out "awards" to each member of the band lol. I got the "Golden Spur" award...hmmmm I wonder why?! lol Man, it's going to be one long trip home. I'm so grateful to have been able to be in Russia, and can honestly say my eyes have been open in many ways. Did I mention how cool it is that is doesn't get dark until around midnight?! lol I never mentioned how awesome our bus drivers are! They were able to get us in and out of traffic and it was amazing!! Kudos to Sergiy!!

May 15th
Well today we traveled home. We had a 3 hour flight from St. Petersburg to Frankfurt then approx a 10 hr flight from Frankfurt to Dallas, then a 7 hours bus ride home. I have never been happier to see our fiberglass cows! Today wasn't all that eventful! I did buy my copy of Vanity Fair in Dallas as soon as we got our luggage and everything!

What should YOU get Anderson for his Birthday?!

OT-Rude Awakening

Ok, so my Spurs were leading the series 2-1, no biggie. Game 3 was a nailbiter, losing by one point. Tonight's game, was just a slow and painful death kinda game. I love my Spurs and I'm loyal until the end, but that was not the team I love. We had plenty of great looking shots, but they just wouldn't go in. We'd play good defense, and have a foul called. We'd get hammered on offense, and it was "good defense" by the kings.

Oh well, game 5 is back in San Antone, and I'm pretty sure the Spurs are going to be back mentally, and bring the physical game with them.

Rita's key factor points:
The Spurs have to find away to get Ginobili into the offense, he was practically invisible in tonights game with only 3 points (I still love ya Manu!!)

The Spurs also need to figure out a way to push the tempo. The kings can't handle the Spurs when they run the floor and get into the lane.

We definatly need to stop giving the kings second chance points by grabbing the rebounds (it would help if they would call an over the back every-now-and-then on our behalf)

Anywho, game 5 is this Tuesday, and dang it, I wont be able to watch. Not that I'm busy or anything, but it wont be televised where I'm at (dang I really need to sign up for NBATV) Well that's enough for now, I really need to finish studying for my organic chem final tomorrow morning.....LOYAL 'TILL THE END! GO SPURS GO!!!
