Special:Dispatches from the Edge

The second hour of AC 360 last night was amazing. The special "Dispatches from the Edge" was as heartwarming, heartbreaking, and compelling as anything we've ever seen from Anderson Cooper. The breathtaking photography combined with the raw emotion of the stories and narration of Anderson brought tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat. Many of the footage and sound bytes I have heard before, but they still moved me. That is the power and excellence of Anderson's reporting, and the reason his Reporter's Notebooks are so loved. No matter how often you watch them and listen to the beautiful narration, it never fails to move you. The one about Afghanistan is the best of them all. The words take your breath away, weaving a tapestry of the past and present that is both informative and touching. If you missed this special, make sure you catch it the next time it's on.

I apologize for not having screen captures from the special, but here are some from last week with the quiz kid. We needed some smiles today anyway. Enjoy!

Planet in Peril

Wednesday's show
See first-hand the devastating effects of climate change on our environment and wildlife. Exclusive access to billionaire Richard Branson's tour of the Canadian Arctic in a "360°" special report, "Planet in Peril," tonight 10 ET
.

Tonight's segment with Richard Branson should be an interesting one. Britain's rock-star type billionaire is always into something new and his career has been interesting to follow.

Okay, enough seriousness. Enjoy the screen caps!

Tuesday in the Anderworld

Tuesday's show
Al Gore talks global climate change with Larry King, then at 10 p.m. ET, it could cause lower Manhattan to disappear. Watch a "360?" special report, "Planet in Peril."

I'm sure by now you all know that Anderson's book, "Dispatches From The Edge: A MEMOIR OF WAR, DISASTERS, AND SURVIVAL" has been released in paperback. A special edition with a DVD is available at Hudson Booksellers. If you haven't purchased this yet, grab the kids, grab the car keys, grab your wallet, and rush out and get it. The DVD is amazing and you'll want to watch it over and over, not to mention listening to Anderson! Sorry, but I never tire of his voice. If he ever tires of traveling, he could make a living recording books on tape. He would sound good reciting the phone book. By the way, there is a little surprise on there that I never expected. You can always count on Anderson for a surprise and a smile. Merci Anderson!

Anderson Blogs from Atlanta

Anderson blogged from Atlanta. He is down there for book signings due to the release of the paperback version of Dispatches from the Edge. One of the reports scheduled for tonight's program is the stoning of a 17 year old Iraqi girl. Her crime - falling in love. This story will break your heart. For more on this and to read the entire blog, follow the link: http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/blog/

I now need to beg your forgiveness for the lack of posts and pictures the last couple of days. Unfortunately, Bloggers new format of autosaving your posts isn't all it's cracked up to be. When I went back to access my auto saved draft, it wasn't there. I'm sure it was the scream that could be heard in Paris and beyond. My long blog about the great AC 360 on Wednesday, Tony Blair's farewell meeting with Bush, Anderson's interview with President Clinton and pics from Anderson's quiz all gone. Oh well, have to try again. Wish me luck! Caps are from last night's program.

No Name Night

Tonight's AC 360 was the night of no names. One was he that I don't want to name and the other was the she Anderson wouldn't name. So there's nothing left but some great screen caps. Enjoy!

Lazy Sunday

I hope everyone had a great weekend. Congratulations to all who were lucky enough to attend the book signing for Anderson's paperback edition of Dispatches from the Edge. Everyone I talked to had a great time and Anderson treated them all with kindness, respect and charm that we all know he is capable of. It is not surprising that he didn't disappoint. The ironic part is that some of his fans don't find it in their heart to emulate his gentlemanly behavior.

Now to hold us over until tomorrow's AC 360, a trip down memory lane has produced some lovely pictures. Enjoy!

Picture of the Week 5/13//07

Before we get on to the picture of the week, I want to take this opportunity to wish every mom, mommy, mother, mum, and mummy out there a very Happy Mother's Day. For those of you like me who are longing to be a Mommy, "ask, believe, receive!" Maybe next year will be our year.

Also, Happy Mother's Day to Mrs Gloria Vanderbilt Cooper and thank you for sharing your wonderful son with us. We are all better people for knowing him.

Now for the picture of the week.

Lil' o' this and lil' o' that!

Anderson blogged once again today, telling us what they're working on for tonight and a few witty comments to bring a smile to our face.
"By the way, we noticed last night's White House dinner in honor of Queen Elizabeth II featured this dish on the menu: Arugula, Savannah Mustard and Mint Romaine with Champagne Dressing and Trio of Farmhouse Cheeses. I don't know about you, but in New York, we call that "salad."
So true,Anderson.

Tuesday's show
Should a candidate's stance on evolution matter? Three GOP presidential hopefuls expressed their disbelief in evolution during last week's debate. Where do you stand? Tune in tonight at 10 p.m. ET
.

In addition, Anderson will be reprising his report on Teri Horton and her $5 purchase of a Jackson Pollack painting that's allegedly worth $50 million.

To my delight, Richard Quest will also be part of tonight's program. I read various comments on the blog saying he should be a regular contributor on AC 360; I wholeheartedly agree. He is an interesting and entertaining character and always has a wealth of interesting tidbits to share with us. I especially like his quiz last night on etiquette with the Queen. Maybe it's my interest in all things royal but I am always interested in what he has to say. Next to Anderson I like him best; maybe it's the English accent?

Now, this week the screen caps will be a little late as my capper is off for a few nights. So the caps will be from Friday night's 360 and the Larry King: 50 years of Pop Culture special. I really enjoyed the Larry King anniversary special, I must've watched it at least four times by now, if not more. From Anderson's capable narration and interviewing Larry to the walk down memory lane, every minute was compelling and at times very emotional. It must have been a great thrill to sit there and listen to Larry talk about all the people he has interviewed and all the events he has had a front row seat to. I wouldn' be surprised if they had tons of footage that was never aired. Maybe they should put it on DVD.

Speaking of videos, allow me a moment to rant. I was terribly disapponted to hear that Anderson's paperback "Dispatches from the Edge" paperback and DVD is only available at Hudson Booksellers. Peronally, I never heard of Hudsons, but after some investigating I found they are only located in airports. That's not fair to overlook all those Anderfans that don't have access to large airports with shops and bookstores. I thought I was the first to suggest Anderson's Reporter's Notebooks being put on DVD, and now that the DVD is made, I can't get it. *sad smiley*

Okay, now on to happier things. Take a look!

Cute, funny, and deliciously yummy!

Anderson blogged today about the Shot on Friday, where he happen to mention that the puppy would like his friend, the duck, even more when she was slaughtered for food. If you are horrified, fear not, Erica voiced your shock. Anderson sweetly apologized to the duck on the blog. How can you not love a man who is a star and humbles himself to cater to our sensibilities?

He also mentioned the state dinner for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth of Britain, who has been in America since last week and attended the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. To read more about the Queen and the entire blog, follow the link: http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/blog/

One of my favorite parts of the run for the roses is the parade of hats. There are so many pretty ones, I can't pick a favorite. Although, I do prefer the more elegant and classy ones rather than those with horses on them. To see more, follow this link: http://www.kentuckyderby.com/2007/experience/index.html

VERY VERY VERY OT, BUT....

I can't refrain from shouting it at the top of my lungs...... THE DALLAS MAVERICKS HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED FROM THE PLAYOFFS IN THE FIRST ROUND BY THE 8TH SEEDED GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS!!!!!

It was amazing to watch Dallas struggle after being the number one team in the NBA, and since many people saying they would win it all this year....but that has been proven wrong!!!

My SPURS have advanced to the 2nd round after defeating the Denver Nuggets 4-1 and will now face the Pheonix Suns! It's going to be an amazing series....

GO SPURS GO!!!

Planet in Peril: Polar Bears

Mark your calenders because this won't happen very often. I was disappointed in the Planet in Peril segment on last night's AC 360. I was so looking forward to the report from the Arctic; I expected either a cuddly, fluffy little baby polar bear snuggling in Anderson's arms or frolicing in the snow with his baby brothers and sisters, or at least a glimpse at the underweight, shivering in the cold polar bears who are at risk due to the melting ice and shortage of food. It seems like wildlife biologist Jeff Corwin found the biggest, healthiest bear he could find, shot it with a tranquilizer dart, and measured him. Is this supposed to get us motivated to learn about global warming and what we can do to slow it down?

Greenpeace had a segment in one of their specials where they showed a polar bear that showed the effects of not enough food and dwindling habitat. It was an adult bear, but unlike the furry, fluffy bears you usually see, this one was obvious underweight. His fur coat seemed to just hang on him and he was visibly shivering. When polar bears lose much of their body fat, they can't tolerate the cold temperatures of their habitat. Even though the Arctic is warming, it is still cold.
According to the National Wildlife Federation, "Polar bears are literally drowning from global warming, unable to swim the increasingly longer distances between land and receding sea ice. They depend on this sea ice to hunt their primary food source--seals. With ice forming later in the fall and breaking up sooner in the spring, the time period bears can forage for food is shrinking every year." There is also a dramatic change in cub survival.

Got one!

Last night's AC 360 touched on a wide variety of subjects, from Imus's contract to Brittney Spears trying to make a comeback, from rubber bullets at the Immigration rally in LA, polar bears in the Arctic, to a biography on Condoleezza Rice. Typical for me, I liked the lighthearted moments the best.

First, Anderson & Erica on Brittney's comeback:
Cooper: "Look, she -- you know, she hasn't had time to be writing new songs. Stuff's going on in her life.
HILL: OK. I mean, sure, it's material she knew well. And she has been busy. You're right. I'm just saying.
COOPER: She's trying to make a comeback. I think everyone should be supportive.
HILL: We wish her all the best.

Yay Anderson! Just when we thought we couldn't find anything more to love about him, he gave us two more last night. One was when he said that the estimate was low for what mothers would be paid if they received a pay check for all the jobs they do. *pause for awww!* Second, was his statement on being supportive of Brittney. I thought that was sweet.

Now for the chuckle of the night, cockroches! Yes, you heard it right, cockroaches. Erica reported that the Houston Museum of Natural Science says it will pay 25 cents for each live cockroach a person brings in. "Ewww", I say. "gross!" said Anderson. The chuckle came at the end of the segment when Anderson could be heard saying, "got one!" as he smacked the desk, pretending he got a cockroach. Or at least I hope he was pretending.

Okay, I admit I'm not the hardest person to please in his audience. I even got you a screen cap. Now if I were a more talented blogger, you would have a clickable thumbnail so you could see the fullsize version. However, since I couldn't master it, a scaled down version will have to do. Take a look!

Anderson Blogs

Anderson is back in New York tonight after taking the red eye from LA: per his blog post this afternoon. We also learned there will be no Anderson in the Arctic. Jeff Corwin's report from there will be part of tonight's program. As disappointing as that is, we will at least see some polar bears.

Follow this link to read Anderson's blog: http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/blog/

Wednesday's show
The popularity of the TV show "CSI" has now influenced the way some juries think. Anderson Cooper investigates why the "CSI effect" may be a dangerous thing. Tune in tonight at 10 p.m. ET.

Anderson in LA

Anderson is in LA covering the Immigration Rally. This is one of those issues that I find easy to pick a side until I read about a little boy having to be separated from his mother. At that point, my soppy side takes over and all bets are off. As long as you make all babies born here citizens regardless of their parents status, it's going to be complicated. But how can you separate parent and child? I just couldn't do it. Anderson will be broadcasting from LA again tonight.

Tuesday's show
Anderson goes 360 with the illegal immigration debate, live from Los Angeles. How much have things changed since last year's May Day protests? Tune in tonight at 10 p.m. ET
.

Here are some screen caps from last night's program from LA. Take a look!
