Anderson back to War Zone

Anderson is back in the war zone. He will broadcasting live tonight from Israel. To read more about it, click on the link to his blog : http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2009/01/05/on-the-ground-near-the-gaza-border/#comment-510689

Anderson's reports from the frontlines are always great; informative, impartial, and interesting. However, I have to say I hate when he goes to war zones. It scares the living daylights out of me. So everyone remember to say your prayers tonight and bring Anderson home safe and sound. I suppose a few prayers for peace wouldn't hurt either. I can't imagine what it must be like for the people living there. Their lives must be literally on hold. How can they sleep with explosions echoing through the air day and night? Even when they stop, they are probably still on edge wondering when it will start again, how close will it hit, and will they live through it? Moreover, what about the children? Can you imagine having kids and wondering how you can keep them safe? They must be scared to death, even more than their parents. As a parent, I would think you'd try to hide your fear so as not to upset your kids even more. It's an unbelievable situation. Unfortunately, it happens way too often in far too many places.

It's Christmas people, what happened to peace on earth and good will towards all men? This area is in the center of Christmas, it's the home of Christmas, it's where Jesus was born. Maybe they need to think of this a little more often.

Monday Blues

First, I want to thank you for the touching comments you made about your fathers. Some of them brought tears to my eyes. I know it's sometimes hard to talk about this stuff, so I appreciate that you chose to share. Thank you!

We often hear people say to appreciate people or situations while we have them. Sometimes it's hard, some people aren't demonstrative and keep things to themselves. We always think we will spend lots of time with our loved ones and have these special conversations and intimate, special moments. However, if our loved one is quiet and not talkative, or if they are already to the point where they are not interested in this world, those special moments become hard to come by. We try our best and have to just accept that "that's how it is".

I don't know about you guys, but I dread Mondays. Today was twice as bad, coming after a bad night. I had a horrible dream and although I often have them, this one not only scared me but my mom as well. She woke me up and asked what was wrong because I was moaning and yelling out in my sleep. Someone was trying to grab me or something and I was trying to get away or something. It was really strange and scary. As luck would have it, it had to come on a day that I had to get up because we had an appointment to get to. Hopefully, Anderson will be on and chase away these blues. He is usually very successful at chasing away my inner demons.

Now on to AC360, they've been advertising tonight's show quite a bit so I hope we get a little more than 30 seconds of Anderson. Although I appreciate whatever we get. Unfortunately, no more blogging so far. I wish he would blog more, especially when he's away.

Here's a glimpse of tonight's program: http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/

Hillary Clinton

So far today there is no blog from Anderson. Maybe all the critical remarks about his taking Ambien turned him off and he's giving up on blogging. Why spend time blogging if people are just going to judge you and criticize you? Of course, it punishes those of us who like reading about his experiences, thoughts, and what he's up to. It's especially nice to hear that he arrived at his destination safely and that he's okay. I'm glad they are doing a second Planet in Peril. I enjoyed the first one immensely and bought the DVD so I can watch it anytime I want. I'm also curious to know how they know which gorilla is the head of the clan and why his predecessor was replaced. I guess even in the animal world there is no job security and the one on top gets knocked off their pedestal eventually.

Tonight on AC360
Where to now?
Photobucket - Video and Image HostingFor more than a year Chelsea Clinton's been

on the campaign trail stumping for her mom. But now that Hillary's
out of the race, what's next for the former first daughter? ... More politics?
I am confused. Why do people, the media, have this impression that since Hillary Clinton isn't the nominee, her whole family is now floundering and looking for a purpose in life. Chelsea was employed before her mom began her campaign and i'm sure she has gone back to it. It seems logical that she either saved up vacation time or took a leave of absence to join the campaign. As for President Clinton, he has his foundation. This man doesn't need anyone to give him a purpose. Here is a private citizen who holds world summits and world leaders attend and become involved in the various causes the summit addresses. Hhe holds a summit every year and over the years, attendees have included such world leaders and distinguished guests such as, Tony Blair, then Prime Minister of Britain, al Gore, Kofi Annan, His Majesty King Abdullah of Jordon, Mayor Bloomberg, First Lady Laura Bush, among others. Bill Clinton does not need Hillary to be the presidential nominee to be important, respected for his accomplisments, or to be involved. He does perfectly fine all on his own. Anderson in Rwanda

According to the 360 blog, Anderson is in Rwanda. It is a sneak peak of the second installment of the Planet in Peril documentary series.
Anderson blogged about hiking to see a group of mountain gorillas that have never been seen by tourists. He wrote that about half of the silverbacks are routinely visited by tourists, whereas the other half are only studied by scientists. It's great to have Anderson blogging again. It's an interesting read, follow the link: http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/06/09/andersons-view-gnawing-on-ambien/

Cooper and Elmo

Yup, you read that correctly. Here is a pic with Cooper and Elmo, the furry guy from " Sesame Street".

I watched a bit of last night's 360 when I was waiting for my plane. Politics , politics and more politics. Thank goodness tonight is the last primary. Anderson, along with other CNN political personel, shall be on tonight analyzing all the angles of this last race. Will Hillary exit gracefully? My guess is no. What is McCain's strategy for clobbering Obama in November? Stay tuned and find out.

By the way....HAPPY 41st Birthday Anderson.
EDIT by Rita:
I think this should be the pictures of the week, so it is :)

Cooper Blogs: The McClellan Scandal

AC himself finally graced us with his presence on the blog today.

The topic was mostly regarding last night's breaking news on former White House Press Secretary McClellan's explosive book detailing some alleged " wrongdoings" of this administration. Now I am not gonna choose sides on this blog , I will follow Coop's lead and let the blog and the new information gleaned from tonight's show guide you all.
Check out the blog post on the 360 site.

Coop also states that he has not, and never will, endorse any particular candidate for office. Now I know a lot of folks accuse Coop and CNN of a liberal bias, but frankly when it comes to the Coop himself, I see no on-air bias from him. Now when it comes to bias from the pundits, yeah I admits TONS of pro-Obama bias. Roland Martin is one of the worst offenders . I respect Anderson for many reasons, but one big one is that he does NOT choose sides in anything he covers. This is very hard for a journalist in any media or/and market to do. we all do carry our biases.

Last night's show was good, but what I wanna know is why Billary is still making headlines with its ridiculous alllegations of some sort of ' cover -up". Conspiracy from whom, one might ask, the far left? HAHAHAHAHA!

"Shock And Awe" on tomorrow

Just a " heads up" all Anderfans!

The AC 360 " Shock and Awe" shall be on at 8 pm EST tomorrow.

I do not have a high opinion of this special, as I've already seen it.

All Together Now, Sorry!!

Happy Friday all. Well, at least it started out that way. I was in a good mood after last night's AC360. Anderson's ay-yi-yi! was good for a giggle and a few smiles. Beat 360 was good, although I do miss his sound effects after reading the staff's caption. There is a grinch at CNN who insists on depleting the show of all the fun stuff! Who says a newscast has to be all serious? Sometimes the lighthearted stuff makes the sad and horrific stuff a little easier to swallow. You know, a spoonful of sugar and all that!

Well, a spoonful of sugar wouldn't be enough today. Try a whole truckload to make Carolyn Jessop's blog entry this afternoon easier to swallow. Anderson was shocked at that a pregnant woman would drink and use drugs. Maybe you can overlook that a little, being that maybe the baby doesn't feel real to her yet. I know that's reaching, but in Carolyn's story the baby is very real and it's heartbreaking to realize that someone could be that cruel to a baby. If you've got a strong stomach and want to read the whole entry, just follow the link: http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/05/02/children-of-polygamy-broken-bones-broken-spirits/
Beware warned; it is very, very disturbing to read. It's even worse than watching the babies being dropped onto the sheet!

It's amazing when you see the extremes of human behavior. I think Anderson said once that great adversity brings out the best in some people and the worst in others. Carolyn Jessop is an example of what is best; strength, courage, and love. I don't know how she was able to survive the conditions she was raised under or where she found the will and courage to escape. I suppose much of it comes with motherhood; there is no sacrifice too great or task too difficult when it comes to protecting your children. I hope someday I can find the same strength and love within myself to be a good mother to babies of my own.

Finally, I hope everyone who bad mouthed Anderson for being off, not doing the stories they wanted from NOLA, and everything else they were critical of, have apologized to him. He said last night at the beginning of the live blog that he was ill the day before. We all hope he is feeling better and will stay happy and healthy. Oh yeah, to the CNN make up people, stop putting that toxic stage make-up on his face! Yes, we watched Planet in Peril and we paid attention. We'll be looking for confirmation on Monday!

Some screen caps from New Orleans and a big thank you for Anderson for taking the time to bring us the show from down there.

AC360 Tonight

Wasn't it nice to have 2 full hours of live AC360 last night? I wish they would do that more often. Tonight on 360......

Ready to lead
From childhood aspirations, to marital troubles, to eventually her choice to run for political office... we look at what has prepared Hillary Clinton for the biggest race of her life. Friday, 10 ET

Tonight AC360 will complete their profiles of the three presidential candidates. Regardless of which candidate you are supporting, these reports have been informative and interesting. I don't know about you guys, but I don't think anyone is going to change their mind. If nothing else, it reinforces your stand. It's odd though, so much of Obama's appeal stems from his inspiring speeches, yet I became even more uninspired after seeing the report on him. If I remember correctly, he was a member of the Illinois state senate for only 3 years when he decided to run for Congress. He lost. Four years later he tried again and won by a landslide. We are up to the year 2004, and instead of spending years in the senate fighting for the people of Illinois, he is now running for president.

When Tony Blair of Britain was in Parliament and looking ahead to running for prime minister he wrote a book "New Britain". In this book he talks about his vision for Britain and the things he wanted to accomplish. I believe Bill Clinton wrote a similar book. People who aspire to become the leader of the land should have a broad view of what they want to do. The impression I get from Barach Obama is that it is all about him. It's not what he wants to do for the people of Illinois or the United States of America, it's what he wants the next line of his resume to say.

Now I admit, maybe I'm a little cynical concerning Obama because he's not the candidate I'm voting for. Let's just say I didn't see anything in that report that is giving me second thoughts.

Regardless of how you feel about any of the candidates, these reports are informative and important. Looking forward to the one tonight.

360 Politics

Last night's segment on Obama, regardless on how I feel about him, was excellent.

Tonight 360 is gonna focus on the life of John McCain. I am glad they are doing backgrounds on all three candidates, it makes all of them seem more' real" if ya know what I mean.

Also, is anyone annoyed by the Clintons' lawyer Lanny Davis? Messege me privaely if you wanna talk about him, I don't wanna " start something" on this blog. But I do review the live blogs every day and when Davis appears there is generally a negative reaction among viewers.

Polygamy

It's starting out to be a good week. Anderson is back and the show was, as usual, remarkable. The polygamy story just pulls you in; the more you learn the more interesting it becomes. I started reading Carolyn Jessop's book last night. "Escape" is to say the least, a great read. It is hard to imagine living the way they did. It isn't just sexual abuse they have to put up with. Emotional and physical abuse were a way of life. She said her mother spanked her every day. She figured out that a morning spanking wasn't as bad as those given in the afternoon. So every morning she would do something to get a spanking; get it over with. Her sisters caught on and did the same thing. Now people don't approve of spanking at all, even on rare occasions. Can you imagine knowing you'll get one every day?

Did you catch Anderson's interview with Katherine? His skill was obvious. He knows how to ask the probing questions and still be respectful. I realized it is hard to believe someone is being upfront and honest when they refuse to look at you, or into the camera. It almost seemed like she was reading a teleprompter. At the very least she was very well aware that someone had their eye on her to make sure she stuck to the script. I guess you can't blame them for not being totally honest. I don't think they can speak freely without repercussions. The young mom, Monica, just broke your heart. It's hard to imagine how difficult it must be for them to see their children "interviewed" like they are. To see them emerge from the interview crying and upset is enough to break any mother's heart. I wonder if in attempting to save many children, many more children will be hurt. It is certainly a compelling and complicated situation.

Follow the link to check out today's Beat 360! It's a good one. Don't ya just love snowmen? http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/04/15/beat-360-41508/ I vote for Ed Freisthler's comment, the one about the icicles. hehehe!

Lucky Columbia

Happy Monday everyone! It's turning out to be a good one. Anderson is definitely back tonight. He blogged about his week off - in Columbia. He will be broadcasting from Miami tonight. To get the news straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak, just follow the link: http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/04/14/andersons-view-a-week-in-colombia/

Guess I should read up on Columbia. Apparently there's more to it than I thought. Hopefully it's not a place where bullets are flying freely through the air.

Anderson Blogged!!

It was a nice surprise yesterday to see a new blog from Anderson. I'm one of the few people left on the planet who still has a 19th century computer so I can't do the web cam thingy. It's probably better that way; the minute I'd see him talking to some pretty girl I would turn green with jealousy, get grumpy and sad, start to cry, and miss the rest of the program. How are the rest of you liking it?

I loved the pictures from the Genesis awards. I even like the ones where he isn't smiling; just standing there looking sexy. He looks to me like he's about to do something really naughty. It's another of those "come hither" looks.

Now on tonight's 360;
After battling cancer, 71-year-old John Mccain says he's healthy and ready to be commander in chief. Sanjay Gupta takes a closer look at Mccain's diagnosis of skin cancer and how he has been declared cancer free. Watch tonight at 10 ET.

I'm not sure I like this subject coming up so soon after Anderson's surgery. Just when I was convinced there was nothing to worry about! May have to start shipping him monthly supplies of anti-oxidants and spf moisturizer. To check out the blog if you missed it and all things 360, here's the link: http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/

Be sure to check out today's Beat 360; there are some great captions! I especially got a kick out of the one girl from Canterbury; she wouldn't comment because "the tower of London is a bit too close"! I love the British ones 'cause we may get a lil bit of English accent from our Anderson. Love, love love!

February Picture of the Month Poll Results

Better late than never, I always say. Although a bit late, here are the results of February's Picture of the Month poll. I have to say, I'm with you, I love this picture.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

To take another look at the entries, follow the link: http://andernation.blogspot.com/search?updated-max=2008-03-03T18%3A20%3A00-06%3A00&max-results=7

Anderson reported live from LA last night. I guess he arrived early for his appearance on Leno's show tomorrow night. I didn't care for the panel discussion on Hillary Clinton; it sounded more like a lynch mob. I felt like writing in and saying "why don't you just string her up?" That was the tone of the discussion in my opinion. I wonder why they don't dissect anything Obama says like they do Hillary. On the experience thing, no matter how little being a governor's wife or First Lady and a senator qualifies her to be president, it's still more than Obama has. One thing people overlook is the fact that she was there when her husband was president and no matter how you feel about him, he is well liked by other world leaders and people. It's immeasurable how much of an asset being liked can be.

No blog from Anderson today, but here's a preview of tonight's 360.

Lawsuit against Wal-Mart
We bring you the story of a brain-damaged woman at the center of a lawsuit against Wal-Mart. Hear why she sued... and they won. Tonight, 10 ET http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/

Also, Erica has a behind the scenes web-only preview. I can't watch video as my computer is too slow so I can't comment on it, but here's the link; Take a look. http://ac360.blogs.cnn.com/2008/03/26/erica-cam-behind-the-scenes/

Anderson in Iraq

Shock & Awe: 5 Years Later
CNN'S award-winning reporters are on the ground in Iraq. Anderson Cooper brings you to the frontlines as only CNN can. Wednesday, 10 p.m. ET

Sounds like Anderson has taken himself off to the war zone again. From our lips to God's ears, let him be safe! I had a feeling he was headed either to Iraq or Afghanistan by the hints he was dropping last week. Also, when they started promoting the Shock & Awe report I thought something might be up. I couldn't see that type or report without Anderson heading to the front lines. At last check he hadn't blogged yet; I'll keep checking for you. It's worrisome when he doesn't blog when he's over there; blogging is what let's us know that he's okay and not caught up in ........well, I don't really want to think about it!

On a lighter note, Happy St. Patrick's Day to all who celebrate. Everyone knows you don't have to be Irish to celebrate St Paddy's Day. Everybody is Irish today!

Once in a Blue Moon

For those of you who know me, you'll be amazed that I'm blogging this early. Being up this early only happens once in a blue moon. There isn't much that will get me out of bed before noon, especially when I don't get to sleep till after 4:00AM. But Anderson was on Regis & Kelly this morning so naturally I had to watch. More on that later.

Tonight on AC360, Michele Obama will be profiled. Also, an interesting blog by Drew Griffin. He talks about standing in front of the apartment building of the young woman Kristen, who finds herself suddenly in the spotlight of the media. His concern with the story of high priced escort services (sounds much classier than "hookers") is that it is being glamorized. If you have a chance, take a look: http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/

We probably won't have a blog from Anderson since he was substituting for Regis this morning. Don't mean to make you feel bad if you missed it, but it was a fantastic show and Anderson looked great as usual. The improv with Kelly and Cheryl Hines was priceless. My heart went out to Anderson though; he looked so uncomfortable! You'd think with all the admirers he has that he would be used to it by now. Although I think that is part of his charm.

Tonight's AC360

It sounds like many are suffering from Spitzer Fatigue. I think it's much like Katrina fatigue; I don't think we're close enough to it to qualify for fatigue. It's going to be covered once again tonight on AC360 since Elliot Spitzer resigned as governor today.

Spitzer Sex Scandal
We go inside the club at the center of the Spitzer sex scandal. Plus, Spitzer's wife and others involved with men who stray...Why do they stay? Watch tonight at 10 ET
http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/

Why do they stay?
I can't believe how much coverage this question is getting! To me, it's a no brainer. Why? Because they love their husbands. All the years together, all they've shared, all the obstacles they've overcome together. That's why they stay. Let's not forget one more - their future. In a word, love. Love is why they stay. They love their husbands. They made a vow, for better or for worse. Am I the only one who still believes in these vows?

There's a little phrase that I've heard that really gets me thinking; would you give up all you have for what you want? Most of us think if we just had this one thing our lives would be perfect. We rarely think of getting our greatest wish at the expense of all that we have. Turn this around to the Spitzer situation; would you throw away your future over one present day hurtful event, a current indiscretion? Would you let your pride deprive you of having your love for the rest of your life?

Maybe he strayed, but if she needed him, would he not be there for her? We can't answer that question, but it's something to think about before we drown her in our opinions. I think all this speculation of how she feels and what she should do does a great disservice to her. It's bad enough she is stuck in this mess, but now she has to listen to every pundit's opinion of her for "standing by her man". That phrase is getting overused these days and starting to sound like a disgrace. It shouldn't be. I don't think it's a character flaw. It's easy to stand by someone when everything is good. The real test is to stick by them when they are down. That's when we really need our families, friends, those who are supposed to love us.

My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family and I hope they can fight their way through this, and come out stronger and closer as a family. Hopefully they can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

AC360

This turned out to be a late blog today, had lots to do before AC360. I didn't even get to check the various blog postings today. Usually I read them all; so if I duplicate what someone else has said, forgive me. First off, I loved the program last night. Anderson was in a good mood and back to kidding around with Erica. He was so serious Tuesday night I was wondering if something was wrong. Sure the news is serious business, but not that night. The lights went out in Florida, and though it was probably a mighty annoying experience for Floridians, it's not like a plane crashed or anything. Needless to say, I'm glad things were a little more lighthearted last night. The Beat 360 was priceless; too bad AC didn't want to show off his biceps for us. But that's okay, we've already seen them. My theory is he's heard about all the fuss that's been made over the photo from New Orleans and he's probably making fun of us. Not ever had anyone make a fuss over my physique, I say "enjoy it Anderson, it's much better to have people praising your looks than making fun of them or making derogatory remarks about them. I've had that experience and I tell you, "it ain't fun!"

I really like that CNN brought Erica to New York; I wonder how Anderson likes having her in the studio with him. It may make the hour go much faster having someone there that you have a good rapport with, someone you're comfortable with. It's nice for the viewer as well, even if the news is depressing, the comments they make back and forth with each other make it seem more .... intimate? Not sure that's the right word but I think you get my drift. The remark about his haircut cracked me up. Personally, I like when he lets it grow. Sure maybe it's easier to take care of; but how would guys like if we girls sported buzz cuts so we wouldn't have to get out of bed an hour and half earlier to do our hair? Preferences aside, he looks seduisant no matter what length his hair or what he's wearing. Thanks Erica, you get a chance to say things the rest of us don't have the opportunity to say.

Now that the sartorial portion of the blog is a fait accompli, we get to the rest of the program. Politics is not my favorite subject. It might be okay if you don't have an opinion and have not chosen a candidate. However, once you've made your choice, it's discouraging listening to everyone knock your fave and discuss how soon they would pull out of the race. The talk of Hillary quitting if she doesn't win Texas or Ohio is really annoying. What about the remaining states you haven't had their primaries yet? Don't they count? Shouldn't they have the opportunity to speak and cast their ballots for the candidate of their choice? Hey, you guys have to pick someone different, the rest of us didn't like that one! Doesn't sound very democratic to me!

I don't know if Anderson would mention this story or not, but it broke my heart when I read it. A woman in India prematurely gave birth on a train. She passed out and the baby fell through the toilet and on to the railroad tracks. The newborn was found a few hours later and died in the hospital. As if I haven't cried enough this week, this event brought a new flood of tears. This poor woman's grief must be almost unbearable. May God bless her and help her through her pain.

Tonight we get treated to another 360 audition. Don't miss it! At least if you're tired of the political bickering, you'll have something else to look forward to in the program. My Mom always used to say, never discuss religion or politics. Now I know why, you're not going to change anyone's mind and it always ends up with someone yelling.

Have a great night!

PS Let me know what you think of the screen caps....too big? too many? not enough? I'll post them whenever I can get them.

Michael Ware is Back

Raw Politics - McCain's Must
John McCain says he will win or lose this election based on Iraq... He needs to convince voters there has been progress in Iraq. Can he do it? Tom Foreman gives us a progress report... and Michael Ware is live from Baghdad. Tonight, 10 ET.

I must say I loved the show last night, lots of smiles and giggles and that little 4 year old singing "Hey Jude" was the cutest little thing. It makes you want to go out and have a dozen kids. If he really knows 40 Beatles' tunes, he must have been listening to their music in utero.

The piece about the solar panels and the redwoods (sounds like a children's book), was puzzling to me. If the trees grew enough to shade the neighbor's house, wouldn't the shade keep the house cooler and therefore, he wouldn't need as much power to cool the house? I need someone to explain that to me. As usual with local laws, they follow them to the letter and all common sense goes out the window. One good thing, at least we're starting to hear a little about solar power.

Since I didn't have a chance to blog yesterday, I will put up some screen caps from Anderson's report on 60 Minutes. Check back later tonight. Sorry for the delay, but it will be worth the wait I'm sure.
