Rainy Days

Don't you just hate rainy, gloomy days? The last three days have been absolutely dismal and it seems to infect everything. My mood matches the grayness of the outdoors. I know they say April showers bring May flowers, but I'm still not sure I like it. Besides, exactly what flowers are they talking about. The crocus crop is already gone, the daffodils are on their way out, and the tulips are blooming now. So what blooms in May?

Okay, enough yammering about nothing and whining. Since Anderson was off on Friday, I thought some yummy screen caps would be a welcome sight. Take a look!

Stop Snitchin'

AC 360 was to say the least, filled with a wide variety of stories and lively discussion. Anderson seems really passionate about the subject of "stop snitchin'". However, I wonder if just writing in to the corporate execs will change anything. Unless people stop buying the product, I don't think they care how many letters they get. Parents objecting to lyrics won't stop kids from buying the music. Kids today are alone or with other kids so much, it's easy to buy things without their parents knowing about it. Regardless, I think it's an important discussion to have and whether or not changes are made, it's an interesting discussion so far.

Some caps from last night's program. Enjoy!

Anderson Blogs

Tuesday's show

Rappers preaching a deadly message: Stop snitching and never help police. Could they actually be making money off the deaths of our kids? Tune in tonight at 10 p.m. ET.

Anderson blogged again today. He talks about the black community's code of silence when it comes to talking to the police. The "stop snitching" code is actually being marketed and it's been heard loud and clear by the young people as you will hear tonight. Anderson interviewed a group of these young people and it's stunnng to hear how they have picked up on this message. Here's the link to the blog, take a look:

Ides of April?

What is it about April? It just seems to me that bad things seem to occur in April. Most recently of course, was the massacre at Virginia Tech, then there was the Oklahoma City bombing, Columbine, and Waco. I won't go into a lot of detail, but personally, it's not a great month either. My dad died on April 30 six years ago, not to mention numerous hospital stays over the years and the year me and my sister were involved in a car accident. No injuries but it was still upsetting and has made me leery of going out shopping on the Saturday before Easter Sunday.

It just seems like an odd month for so much unhappiness and disaster. It's the beginning of spring like weather, so you can't say it's the dreariness of cold and snow that gets people down or that cabin fever has gotten them depressed. April has some of the prettiest days we experience, as the soaring humidity of summer is absent. The forsythia bloom with a profusion of delicate, bright yellow flowers that make even the cloudiest day seem cheerful. The daffodils are in bloom and the air is heavy with the sweet scent of hyacinths. The grass is finally turning green again and at least a couple weeks out of the month are sunny and warm. You get the itch to get out there and work in your garden and free your roses from their blanket of dried leaves. For the first time in months you can spend your time outdoors without multiple layers of clothing, shivering and sporting a red nose like Rudolph. The days are longer and warmer and everything seems new and fresh.

So why the unspeakable acts such as school shootings? There are probably as many answers as perpetrators of these horrible acts. When some kids are looking forward to proms, spring dances, graduation and new jobs, is it just too much for the unattached, outcast, and loners to continue watching the rest of the world enjoying themselves when all they feel is anger or despair? In some cases we will probably never know, and in other cases we won't know until it's too late.

Hopefully, some day soon, we will all make it a point to at least try and include the disenfranchised and misfits. Let's hope when we do, they are willing to accept our hand in friendship. Friendship, after all, is a two way street.

The Ides of April? Everyone has heard of the Ides of March and the sense of foreboding that surrounds that date, March 15. When the soothsayer warned Julius Caesar to "beware the Ides of March", the expression wouldn't have invoked a dark mood. Ides of March at that time was merely a term used to denote the appearance of the full moon. Ides was one of the terms used to indicate lunar events; there is also the ides of April and the ides of May. But after the bloody assasination of Julius Caesar in 44BC, the Ides of March came to represent a day of abrupt change. No longer is it a term referring to any one of 12 ides, occurring every month of the year.

Enough of useless trivia; hope everyone has a good week starting with an AnderMonday!

Anderson at Virginia Tech

Anderson Cooper is live in Virginia, sorting through new details about the shooter and his sinister plot. Tune in tonight 10 pm Eastern.

If you've had enough of watching the disturbing video and pictures of the VT killer, you're not alone. It's been mentioned more than once today and the majority opinion seems to be - enough is enough, maybe more than enough. So I offer an alternative, a couple of screen caps from last night's broadcast.

A Chilling Insight

Like most of you, I have been following the coverage of the Virginia Tech shootings. The recently released recordings that the killer sent to NBC are chilling to say the least. On tonight's AC 360, Anderson will continue the Live coverage from Virginia Tech.

Wednesday's show
Cho Seung-Hui
Imaginary friends, stalking classmates, violent writings and more. Why didn't anyone put all the warning signs together in time? How did a mass murderer fly under the radar? Anderson is LIVE from the VA Tech campus getting answers. Tonight at 10 p.m. ET

We shall Never forget

It always seems to amaze me how human beings can come together during a time of tragedy. As we are all aware, headlines from Virginia are all over, and we all know the stories behind it.

I was able to watch the last part of the convocation and it was just amazing. It brought back many memories, particularly one from my freshman year when we had 2 students killed in a car accident as fall break was beginning. One of the students was a very good friend of mine from church. I remember sitting in the auditorium and to be able to witness the compassion and unity amongst all the students was very heartwarming. Tragedy on any scale is just that a tragedy and my heart and prayers go out to all those affected by the tragedy in Virginia. I just hope that we can all learn from these past experiences, Virginia Tech, Columbine, and others and learn to love one another the way we are all called to love.

"An American Elegy" was composed by Frank Tichelli in honor of those that survived as well as lost their lives during the Columbine school shooting, but the emotional sounds of this song can be appreciated in any tragedy, and I hope you will take the time to listen to this amazing composition and reflect on what has happened, and what is happening in our world and take the time to be thankful for everything you have, and all the hard times you've been through but have come out on top victoriously!

I pray that God will open the eyes of our society and shed light into the darkness and use each and every one of us as a vessel for His love to reach out to those in need, to those that are hurting, to those that just need someone to show compassion and love into their lives.

Massacre at Virginia Tech

Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those who were affected by the shootings at Virginia Tech. At the beginning of AC 360 tonight, John King announced that Anderson is on his way back from Afghanistan. I hope he will be covering this tragedy; he has a gentle and empathetic way with people who are hurting. His presence is needed on that campus right now and it will add to the talent already reporting on this tragic event.

Many of us became familiar with Anderson's reporting through heartbreaking events such as the tsunami and Hurricane Katrina. This is the type of reporting that allows Anderson to shine. This is where we see what a truly kind hearted soul he is. I always hated when reporters would go up to people in pain and shove a microphone in front of them asking how they feel. Anderson never intrudes; he seems to let people seek him out. If they want to share their feelings, their story; he is there to listen.

Anderson is the silver lining in the cloud of tragedy. Thank God for sending him to us.

Safe trip home to Anderson and everyone say a prayer tonight for those families grieving tonight and a quick recovery for the injured.

Anderson in Afghanistan.

Monday's show:

We're in Afghanistan as a new Taliban offensive brings more suicide bombings and more American casualties. Can the Afghan government survive? Tune in tonight at 10 p.m. ET
.

Wow! I didn't see that one coming. Apparently, Anderson is on his way to Afghanistan. So that's why there was no "see you tomorrow".

Last night's program was remarkable, had something for everyone. Imus is now without a radio show as well as his MSNBC simulcast. He met last night with the Rutger's Women's Basketball team and apologized for his remarks. I heard this afternoon they have accepted his apology.

The best part of the show was seeing Mr. Herbert Gettridge is ready for his "little girl". *pause for everyone to go Awww*, to return to their home in New Orleans. The 83 year old has been working on the house since March of 2006, doing most of the work himself. A number of volunteers have pitched in to help him after seeing his story on AC 360. The house just needs curtains and window screens, but Herbert says he can do those even after she's moved in. Isn't he one of the sweetest married guys you know? Their love affair is what we are all looking for. Well, me anyway. So hurry back home Lydia; your man and your house are ready for you! Thanks Anderson for sharing their story with us; it is indeed the stuff that dreams are made of. Our own real life, fairy tale!

Here are some screen captures from Anderson's interview with Herbert Gettridge. Take a look!

Anderson Blogs from New Orleans.

We've had a blog from Anderson two days in a row now. It's good to see and much appreciated. There are also blogs from Susan Roesgen, Randi Kaye, and Gary Tuchman.

The story from Randi will break your heart! However, they are all interesting, so check them out and be sure to tune in tonight at 10:00 PM ET.
http://www.cnn.com/CNN/Programs/anderson.cooper.360/blog/

In honor of Anderson's return to New Orleans, here is a photo from 2005 while he was covering the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Old and Gray? Don't think so!

How about some pretty pictures to go along with the pretty lyrics? Along with taking our calls, Anderson did a segment with Dr. Sanjay Gupta on the subject of Living Longer. One of the things they talked about was stress and having a day of complete rest, like Sunday. Sanjay said he has learned how to handle stress and doesn't really take a day of rest. He said doing something different is a form of rest. Anderson said, "That's not rest. That's what a workaholic tells himself." Sanjay said he feels good and he will be around as long as Anderson. Anderson replied, "When you're old and gray like me."

Don't know about you, but he doesn't look old and gray to me! See for yourself!

A Place Called Home

Lyrics to "A Place Called Home"

You can listen to the song HERE @ her Myspace
I heard this on the episode of Angel that I watched tonight; it was a very emotional episode when one of the characters died yet...still has a role in the series (it's a long story lol...well not too long if you'd like to know more about it just ask me and I'll let you know whats going on!!)

Kim Richey A Place Called Home Lyrics
Well, it's not hard to see
Anyone who looks at me
Knows I am just a rolling stone
Never landing anyplace to call my own
To call my own

Well, it seems like so long ago
But it really ain't you know
I started out a crazy kid
Miracle I made it through the things I did
The things I did

Someday I'll go where there ain't no rain or snow
'Til then, I travel alone
And I make my bed with the stars above my head
And dream of a place called home

I had a chance to settle down
Get a job and live in town
Work in some old factory
I never liked the foreman standing over me
Over me

Oh I'd rather walk a winding road
Rather know the things I know
See the world with my own eyes
No regrets, no looking back, no goodbyes
No goodbyes

Someday I'll go where there ain't no rain or snow
'Til then, I travel alone
And I make my bed with the stars above my head
And I dream of a place called home

Anderson Blogged!!

Wednesday's show
Don Imus has a track record when it comes to uttering racial slurs. Should his sponsors and even his guests be held accountable too? Anderson Cooper is keeping them honest. Tune in tonight at 10 p.m. ET.

Also, Anderson blogged!!!
Check it out

Eww, rats!

It was a great 360 last night; we haven't had the opportunity to call in for a long time. I hope they do it more often. I won't comment on Imus, as I've never seen or heard his program.

Yay, another seamanship video which made Anderson smile; always a good thing. I was totally freaked out by the rats! Ewww!I think I was making the same faces as Anderson, in between closing my eyes that is. I'm sorry, but rats just gross me out!! Boggles the mind why the resturant doesn't just get a cat to move in.

Now some Anderbeauty; this is from the Sweet Jesus segment when he was talking about the chocolate sculpture of Jesus. Although, I think Sweet Jesus could also be used most appropriately when describing this photo. Take a look!

AnderMonday!

Happy AnderMonday to all; and it most certainly is since Anderson is back. Please don't go away again!

Although I am not one of them, many people first were introduced to our Anderson when he was the host of the television program "The Mole". Episodes of the program can be viewed on YouTube. Every night I will post a link to the program. Take a look.

Ah! The handsome prince at the ball, you can even see his cuff links. What is it about a guy wearing cuff links? It just looks so elegant and classy. I've always liked cuff links on a man; maybe because my Daddy always wore cuff links.

Anyway, enjoy the Anderbeauty!

Easter Traditions

So I've finally finished my holiday preparations, well, as far as food goes that is. I made the Easter cheese, quart of milk, dozen eggs, teaspoon of salt. Very simple, except you sit at the stove and stir forever! Okay, I exaggerate, it's not really forever, just twenty minutes. It just seems like forever. Add to that 3 nut rolls, 3 apricot rolls, eighteen pretty colored, hard boiled eggs, a ham and kiebassi, and voilà, an Easter feast!

To keep with tradition, we pack this all into a wicker basket and take it to church to be blessed. I never figured out why we don't take our Easter baskets of candy with us as well, but we don't.

I hope everyone has a very Happy and Blessed Easter in the Anderworld. And to keep the Anderworld happy, some more Anderbeauty.

Happier Times

I don't know if it's just me, or if we all do it. No, not that "do it!". I am talking about when we're feeling down or things go wrong, we do something that will make us feel better. We read old letters or look at greeting cards we've received. Sometimes we go through old mememtos and reminisce or take out our photo albums and use the pictures to help us re-live those happier times.

So that's what this post is about. It's been a sad week, an Anderless week. Someone mentioned they wanted more eye candy, Ander eye candy, of course. Sounds good to me. It wasn't easy choosing a photo, but I remembered how enjoyable it was watching Anderson with the elephants. Come on, admit it; didn't you for one second wish you were that elephant frolicking in the water with Anderson? Okay, just kidding!

Hope you enjoy; take a look.

Big questions about how the universe came to be and how we got here. Science says one thing, the Bible says another. Can the two co-exist? "What is a Christian?" tonight, 10 ET.

Since we are all suffering from AnderRetrait, aka Anderwithdrawal, I thought a video clip would be appreciated. Y'all may have seen it before but you can never see an Anderclip too many times. This one is from the earlier version of AC360 and is called "Emailing the Prez". Take a look!

We want to hear from YOU!

As the title of this post says, we want to hear from you about what YOU would like to see on the Andernation blog! Your opinion counts, hope to hear from alot of you soon!!! You can either leave your suggestions as a comment or shoot me an email!

Blog Traffic

A comment posted yesterday mentioned the number of Anderblogs and the people posting and it got me thinking. Here's my 2 cents worth on the subject.

I think there are various reasons for the change in people posting. The number of blogs does influence it, in a good way I think. With the various blogs, people can find the ones where they feel the most comfortable and fit in. Some people like controversy and gossip, some prefer reviews of the previous night’s program, some of us like to discuss what we like about Anderson and the program, while some of us don't like to read criticism of Anderson or 360. To many of us, criticizing the show is the same as finding fault with Anderson. Some blogs are mindful of how he would feel if he were to read it, others don’t care or feel it’s private and there’s no chance of him reading it.

I don't judge a site by the numbers, but think it's more important that the people get along and enjoy the experience. If only 10 to 20 people visit a blog on a regular basis and interact well with each other, I feel that's better than having 50 or more members, where there's sniping, fighting, and people's feelings getting hurt.
Everyone has a different reason for visiting blogs and commenting. I don’t know how it breaks down, but some people never comment but just enjoy reading the blog and the comments. Others comment when the spirit moves them or if they want to express their gratitude or appreciation of what was posted. On the other hand, there are those who thrive on starting arguments and stirring the pot, so to speak. I suppose they like the excitement of saying something to get a rise out of others. Maybe it makes them feel important.

Personally, blogs for me are an escape. It’s a chance to get away from everyday problems and the anxiety that stems from situations and problems that can’t be solved but cause distress. I don’t want to argue with people nor do I want to read things that upset me. If I wanted problems, fights, arguments, and unhappiness – well, let’s just say I can find enough of that in the real world. For me, the cyberworld, or Anderworld, is a place to feel good. I guess it’s the adult version of a fairy tale.

If you like what we do here, Cead Mille Failte, a hundred thousand welcomes. If not, I hope you find your own favorite little corner of the Anderworld. Either way, thank you for dropping in.

AnderMonday

Hope everyone has made it through their Monday; only 3 hours to AC360. Tonight's show :

She left a long trail of dead husbands. Now after decades at large, the woman known as the "Black Widow" is in custody. Hear how she allegedly spun her web. Tune in tonight at 10 ET.

I thought they caught her a long time ago! I'm looking forward to hearing more about it.

If you missed Friday's show, you missed an excellent one. Besides "The Shot" which is always good, there was the story about the little boy whose Daddy came back from his tour of duty in Iraq. When he was shipped off, he promised his six year old son that when he returned he would pick him up at school. While he was stationed in Iraq, the class wrote letters to him.
When he walked into class, the sight of that little boy running into his Daddy's arms was a heartwarming sight. He burst into tears, as most of us did I think, and wrapped his little arms around his Daddy's neck. Now if that didn't reduce you to tears, then the little whispered exchange which came next will surely do the trick. Holding his son close, Ensign Bill Hawes told his son John "I missed you too kiddo him. Trying to speak through his sobs, little John Hawes said, "I missed you, too, Daddy!"
Like Anderson said of this video, "It can warm your heart and break it at the same time!" How true!

I've watched this multiple times already and it never fails to bring tears to my eyes.

"Thankfully, blessedly, parents do come home from war," Anderson said. I say, "amen to that!" I wish we could see more happy endings like this. And I wish everyone's homecoming was this sweet and joyful! Better yet, I wish they didn't have to go to war at all.

In closing, may all those British men and women come home soon and have happy reunions with their loved ones.
