Katie Couric to Leave CBS News?

There is speculation about Katie Couric possibly leaving CBS Evening News in 2009. The reason why I bring this up is that AC is named as one of the possible replacements for that anchor chair. Now I admit that I am NOT a Couric fan, but if Coop were to go to the mainline evening news, I fear that some of the snarkiness that is a trademark of AC 360 will go by the wayside. In my opinion , this would be tragic.

I think that Cooper is at his best when he can have flexibility. A fulltime anchor slot with one of the " big three" networks will not allow hm the freedom he has with working for cable news.

Thoughts?

Journalist Girl--I am with you. I don't think Anderson would be that happy just being on the air for 30 minutes a night. He wouldn't get to do the traveling and reporting on the things he really likes to do, except for 60 Minutes, which he all ready does. And in my opinion nobody does breaking news the way Anderson does.

The only reason I think he would even consider this is if he was ready to settle down and not travel as much.

I guess time will tell, but I hope he stays with CNN.

I agree with you both on this.

I really think Anderson would be bored to tears the first week there,IF he did take it.

Anderson thrives in the field, and he would never have the freedoms he has now at CNN to do all those things he loves to do.
Being ''stuck at the desk''would certainly not be challenging for him.
And yes, there is nobody that can handle the breaking news like he can.

There is just something about it,that is different from the others,IMO.

I too, hope he stays at CNN.

Wasn't there something about this the last time, and he said something in his Men's Journal interview about it last year?

That it ''wasn't for me'' or something to that effect.

Personally,I don't see it happeneing THIS time either.
If he had really wanted to,he might have done so before signing his new CNN contract.

No, Anderson for CBS. Please. that would mean "serious Anderson" all the time. The twinkle would go out of his eye, the spring would go out of his step, the giggles would go silent, and any hope of his mentioning the 'bits n' pieces' would go out the window. No CBS for Anderson.

I hope AC has more sense than to take on a losing proposition. CBS is already in so much hot water: ratings are way down, they're laying off/firing half their staff (national and local stations) to make ends meet. Even if CNN and CBS did a trade - Couric for AC, they'd still have to pay that high salarly and I thought their objective was to save money and cut the fat!! I'm praying this doesn't happen - come to think if it, I bet they could get Dan Rather for a steal!!LMAO

Maybe that's why CBS is in such hot water now, Dan Rather put a curse on them. Not that they don't deserve it. They didn't do right by him.
